You need this easy lasagna shortcut for busy weeknights. This recipe uses frozen cheese ravioli to create a cheesy, comforting pasta casserole that tastes like classic lasagna without the layering fuss.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (24 ounce) package frozen cheese ravioli
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 (24 ounce) jar marinara sauce
  • 1 (15 ounce) container ricotta cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese, divided

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Cook the ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat until it is browned completely. Drain any excess fat from the beef.
  3. Stir the marinara sauce into the cooked ground beef in the skillet. Bring the sauce mixture to a simmer, then remove it from the heat.
  4. In a medium bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until the ingredients are fully incorporated.
  5. Spread half of the meat sauce mixture evenly over the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  6. Arrange the frozen ravioli in a single layer over the sauce layer. Do not thaw the ravioli first.
  7. Spread the entire ricotta mixture evenly over the layer of ravioli.
  8. Pour the remaining meat sauce mixture over the ricotta layer.
  9. Sprinkle 1 cup of the mozzarella cheese evenly over the top sauce layer.
  10. Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil.
  11. Bake for 30 minutes.
  12. Remove the foil and sprinkle the remaining 1 cup of mozzarella cheese over the top.
  13. Return the dish to the oven, uncovered, and bake for another 10 to 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the casserole is heated through.
  14. Let the lazy lasagna rest for 5 minutes before you cut and serve it.

Notes

  • This recipe is a great family friendly comfort food option for a quick weeknight dinner.
  • You can substitute ground turkey or Italian sausage for the ground beef if you prefer.
  • For a deconstructed lasagna feel, you can skip the baking step and serve the sauced ravioli topped with ricotta and mozzarella directly from the stovetop, similar to a one pot pasta dinner.
