Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bottle (750ml) dry red wine
  • 1 cup apple cider
  • 1/4 cup brandy
  • 1/4 cup orange liqueur
  • 1 orange, sliced
  • 1 apple, cored and sliced
  • 1 pear, cored and sliced
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1/4 cup sugar (optional)
  • Sparkling water or club soda (for serving)

Instructions

  1. In a large pitcher, combine the red wine, apple cider, brandy, and orange liqueur.
  2. Add the sliced orange, apple, and pear to the pitcher.
  3. Stir in the cinnamon sticks. If you prefer a sweeter sangria, add the sugar and stir until dissolved.
  4. Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld.
  5. To serve, pour the sangria into glasses filled with ice. Top with a splash of sparkling water or club soda.

Notes

  • For a white sangria, use a crisp white wine like Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc and add sliced peaches or grapes.
  • A nonalcoholic version can be made using apple cider as the base, with a mix of cranberry juice and sparkling cider, and plenty of fruit and spices.
  • This sangria can be made ahead for easy entertaining.
