Ingredients
Scale
4 English muffins, split
1/2 cup pizza sauce or marinara sauce
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Toppings of your choice (e.g., pepperoni, sliced mushrooms, cooked sausage)
Cooking spray or small amount of olive oil (for air fryer/toaster oven)
Instructions
Preheat your cooking appliance. For the oven, preheat to 400°F (200°C). For the toaster oven, set to toast/bake setting. For the air fryer, preheat to 375°F (190°C).
Separate the English muffins into halves. You will have 8 pieces.
Place the muffin halves, cut-side up, on a baking sheet (oven/toaster oven) or directly in the air fryer basket.
Lightly toast the muffins for 2-3 minutes in the oven or toaster oven, or 1 minute in the air fryer. This helps prevent a soggy crust.
Spread about 1 tablespoon of pizza sauce evenly over the surface of each toasted muffin half.
Sprinkle the mozzarella cheese over the sauce on each piece.
Add your desired toppings sparingly. Do not overload the muffins.
Bake or air fry until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the edges of the muffin are golden brown and crispy. This takes about 5-8 minutes in the oven, 4-6 minutes in the toaster oven, or 4-5 minutes in the air fryer.
Remove carefully, let cool for one minute, and serve immediately.
Notes
For a crispier crust in the oven, place the muffin halves directly on the oven rack after toasting, then add toppings and return to the oven.
You can assemble these ahead of time (without baking) and freeze them on a tray. Once frozen solid, transfer them to a freezer bag. Bake from frozen, adding 2-3 minutes to the cook time.
Use this recipe for an English muffin breakfast pizza by substituting the sauce with scrambled egg and adding cooked bacon or sausage before the cheese.
