1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons honey
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Trim the ends off the green beans.
Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the butter and allow it to melt.
Add the minced garlic to the skillet and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant. Do not let the garlic burn.
Add the trimmed green beans to the skillet. Sauté for 5 to 7 minutes until the beans are tender-crisp.
In a small bowl, whisk together the honey and soy sauce.
Pour the honey soy mixture over the green beans in the skillet. Toss to coat evenly.
Cook for 1 to 2 minutes more, allowing the glaze to thicken slightly.
Remove from heat, stir in the black pepper, and serve immediately.
Notes
For crispier green beans, blanch them in boiling water for 2 minutes before sautéing.
If you want a Southern Style flavor, substitute the honey and soy sauce with 1/4 cup of water and 2 slices of cooked, crumbled bacon.
This recipe works well with frozen green beans if you do not have fresh ones available.
