Welcome! You need a rich, creamy beverage that stays warm for hours. This easy crockpot hot chocolate recipe is perfect for holiday gatherings or cozy winter nights. Set it and forget it for the best slow cooker cocoa.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 (12 ounce) can evaporated milk
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 6 cups water
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • Optional toppings: marshmallows, whipped cream, peppermint sticks

Instructions

  1. Combine the sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, cocoa powder, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt in your slow cooker. Whisk these ingredients together until the cocoa powder is fully dissolved.
  2. Pour in the water and stir everything until it is well combined.
  3. Cover the slow cooker and cook on LOW for 2 hours, stirring occasionally.
  4. After 2 hours, stir in the heavy cream.
  5. Continue cooking on LOW for another 30 minutes, or until the hot chocolate is heated through and creamy. Do not let it boil.
  6. Switch the slow cooker setting to the ‘Keep Warm’ setting for serving. Serve warm with your favorite toppings.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use high-quality chocolate chips instead of cocoa powder, melting 12 ounces of semi-sweet or milk chocolate chips with the milks.
  • This recipe is excellent for making ahead for a crowd; the slow cooker keeps it perfectly tempered for serving during parties.
  • If you want to make this dairy-free, substitute the milks with full-fat coconut milk or another non-dairy alternative, though the texture will change.
