Make this simple, tangy, and creamy horseradish sauce at home. It is the perfect flavor booster for prime rib, roast beef, or steak.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup prepared horseradish, drained
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon fresh chives, chopped (optional)

Instructions

  1. Combine the sour cream, heavy cream, prepared horseradish, Dijon mustard, lemon juice, salt, and pepper in a medium bowl.
  2. Whisk the ingredients together until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
  3. Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning if needed, adding more salt or lemon juice for brightness.
  4. If using, stir in the fresh chives.
  5. Cover the bowl and chill the sauce in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving. This allows the flavors to blend.
  6. Serve cold alongside prime rib, roast beef, or steak.

Notes

  • Drain the prepared horseradish well to prevent the sauce from becoming too watery.
  • For a sharper flavor, use fresh horseradish root grated finely instead of prepared horseradish.
  • If you prefer a thicker sauce, substitute half of the heavy cream with an equal amount of cream cheese, softened.
