Ingredients
Scale
1 sheet heavy cardstock (your choice of color)
1 sheet contrasting cardstock (for icing detail)
Scissors or electronic cutting machine
Craft glue or hot glue
Wooden skewers or food-safe sticks
Pencil
Ruler
Instructions
Design the cinnamon roll shape on paper or your cutting machine software. You need a flat base shape resembling a rolled-up spiral.
Cut the main cinnamon roll shape from the heavy cardstock. This will be the base layer.
Create the icing layer. Cut thin, wavy strips from the contrasting cardstock. These strips should be slightly narrower than the main roll base.
Cut small, irregular dots or blobs from the contrasting cardstock to represent icing drips or dollops.
Glue the thin icing strips onto the base cinnamon roll shape, arranging them to look like drizzled icing.
Glue the icing dollops randomly over the strips for added texture.
If you want a layered look, cut a second, slightly smaller cinnamon roll shape from the heavy cardstock and glue it to the back center of the first layer.
Attach two wooden skewers or food-safe sticks securely to the back of the finished topper using strong craft glue or hot glue. Allow the glue to dry completely before placing it on your cake.
Notes
For an edible cake topper, use rolled fondant or gumpaste instead of cardstock and skip the skewers, using a clean, food-safe dowel instead.
If you are making a sweet roll birthday theme party, use colors like cream, tan, and white for a classic bakery centerpiece look.
